LONGARM QUILTING COSTS:

Quilting price is calculated on a cost per square inch basis and ranges from 3 cents per square inch for simple designs, to medium custom (4.5 cents) to highly complex (6 cents and up). Additional charges for individual sashing and borders may apply, starting at $5 each, upon consultation. Please also see the Longarm Designs examples page.

For example, using a 60 by 60 inch square lap quilt:

  • Level A (3.5 cents per square inch): With a simple loopy design, the quilting would cost $126 for the quilting (3600 square inches by 3.5 cents per square inch); batting and notions will add $17 and binding will range between $24 and $60. Excluding shipping, this Level A lap quilt will cost approximately $167 to $203.

  • Level B (4.5 cents per square inch): With a medium custom design, the cost would range between $208 and $244.

  • Level C (starting at 6 cents per square inch): High complexity quilting for this lap quilt could cost $216 or more; including batting and binding the cost would begin at $262.

Borders with simple designs different from the rest of the quilting design are $15 each, with complex designs, $25 each.

Note: I charge a $30/hour fee to fix wavy borders, clip threads, or iron extensive wrinkles in the top and/or backing before loading your quilt.

Batting is available or you can supply your own if it is wider and longer than the quilt top by at least 8 inches. Typical batting costs range from $10 to $45.

Backing is also available or you can supply your own as long as it is wider and longer than the quilt top by at least 8 inches. If needed, I will piece your quilt backing at $10 per seam. Typical cost for backing fabric is $12 to $18 per yard (standard and wide widths).

Thread (one color): $5 for a baby quilt, $10 for larger. Additional colors are $5 each. I typically match bobbin and top threads.

Binding costs:

  • I make the binding: $20 to $30 depending on quilt size and scrappiness of binding fabric

  • I machine attach the binding to one side, you finish: 10 cents per linear inch (circumference)

  • I attach the binding both sides by machine: 25 cents per linear inch
